Thank you for 2021, friends!
As this year is wrapping to a close, we wanted to share the impact that your donations have made throughout 2021. Without your generous support, we couldn't have donated 49 Foxboxes across 3 children's hospitals that supported 45 families. YOU made 2021 happen. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you. We are honored to have you on this journey with us, friends. ♥️🦊🌈✨
Books for babies! PI Kids & Foxbox!
For Giving Tuesday 2021, PI Kids donated over 700 books to Foxbox! We are so thrilled and honored to partner with PI Kids to bring more books to babies, and families, experiencing long hospital stays.
Dear Foxbox: A letter from Jimmy Joel
Dear Foxbox, My name is Jimmy Joel and I am 14 months old. My mom and dad are Joel & Annie. I’m an only child and have a few medical conditions we found out about when I was 4 months old.
One year ago today
One year ago today, we dropped off our very first Foxboxes for two sweet babies on the hematology/oncology floor at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
Baby Einstein™ & Foxbox!
Today, Foxbox (https://www.foxboxes.org/), a nonprofit organization founded to support babies and families by delivering free customized boxes of comforting products that reduce the stress of long-term hospital stays, has announced a partnership with Baby Einstein™ (https://www.kids2.com/pages/baby-einstein), a collection of award winning children’s products from Kids2™.
Meet Rai, a Foxbox Family Story!
It was an absolute honor to talk with Gromit, Rai’s mama, and learn how Foxbox helped bring comfort, joy, and moments of normalcy to their long hospital stay.
Tiny Big Moment: A badge of his very own.
There are few things as elusive and bewitching to small kids in the hospital as a nurse’s identification badge. Bright and shiny, they dangle with such a peculiar and fascinating movement that calls out with a siren’s song for babies to grab. But on an oncology floor, though cleaned with extreme precision, they’re objects that aren’t meant to be played with.
Meet Helen, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse!
“After I did a clinical rotation in adult oncology, I knew that pediatric oncology would be my calling. The ability to care for the entire family through a very difficult journey is something that is very hard to describe to people at times. We ride the waves of the highs and lows alongside families and often experience victories and losses side by side.”
Meet Kim, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse!
Say hello to Kim! She’s a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital/OHSU. We asked her to share what it's like work with babies, what she's learned from babies as a pediatric intensive care unit nurse and what it's like to live in the PICU. We're honored to share her story with you.
PICU Foxbox: A box designed for babies in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
“We are truly grateful to bring Foxbox to babies and their families in the Doernbecher PICU. The Foxbox team has worked with us to curate boxes that will not only support the growth and development of our babies in the critical care environment, but also bring hope and comfort to their families.”
- PICU RN, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital
2021: The year of tiny big moments
I keep circling back to those moments that, if you were to write a biography of someone, would often never make it past the firstdraft. Moments that we tend to forget, to move on from, leaving them in the past where we experienced them. A neatly trimmed sticker. A hand to hold. A name. A dance. Moments so tiny that if you blinked, you’d miss them. But the tiny moments are how you survive and what helps carry the weight of grief once the wave has crashed. Our strength and our hope were built in practically immeasurable increments.
Meet Amelia & Rebecca!
Happy New Year! It only feels right to start 2021 out with an interview from one of our families. We're so honored to bring you Amelia & Rebecca's story today.
Meet Kelly Jeske, LCSW
Say hello to Kelly Jeske, LCSW (Medical Social Worker)! She’s a member of the Hematology/Oncology Social Work team Doernbecher Children’s Hospital/OHSU. We asked her to share what it's like work with babies, what she's learned from babies as a social worker and what it's like to live in a hospital. We're honored to share her story with you.
Finding a moment of peace through a ritual
Spending endless days and nights in a hospital, parenting in a fishbowl, looking at a clock, seeing it is 7:00-and wondering if that means morning or evening is all too common for parents who are experiencing long hospital stays with their babies.
In our ongoing Wellness series, we’ll cover different ways that caregivers and families can practice self-care.
Update: Meet Mya & Julie
We are so proud of how well Mya is doing and it’s great to see her getting stronger every day.
Meet Bo & Chloe
“He’s not just a sick baby in a bed—he’s Bo—who loves to sing and dance, loves watching Ferdinand and Tangled, enjoys eating fries, French toast, and scrambled eggs, and has a sister who is his best buddy.”
Meet Dariush & Emma
“I remember seeing him reach for other babies as though to say I recognize your pain and I want to give you my love.”
